Your body is controlled by a wide range of hormones that influence various physiological aspects for it to function properly. From body temperature, sleep, mood, stress, growth and more are handled by hormones secreted by endocrine glands, pituitary, thyroid or adrenal glands.

At Pranaam, we house one of the most sought-after endocrinology departments that cater to the needs of patients with hormonal issues or underlying health conditions that are triggered by hormonal imbalances.

Conditions treated

When the hormone insulin that is responsible for transporting sugar from the blood to the cells to be stored or used for energy, doesn’t make its way around the body as intended leading to a condition known as diabetes.

Diabetes affects people of all ages, including children and some of the signs to watch out for include increased thirst, frequent urination, persistent hunger, unintentional weight loss, fatigue and behavioural changes.

When the thyroid gland overproduces a hormone called thyroxine, it results in a condition known as Hyperthyroidism which is characterised by an accelerated metabolism in the body causing unintentional weight loss, irregular heartbeat, tremours, increased sensitivity to heat, fatigue etc. to name a few.

The thyroid gland is responsible for producing hormones that regulate the heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature and weight. Thyroid cancer develops in the cells of the thyroid gland which initially does not cause any symptoms but may cause pain and swelling in the neck if left untreated.

Neuroendocrine tumours are cancers that develop in cells found in the body known as Neuroendocrine cells. These cells have properties that of nerve cells and hormone-producing cells. Tumours of this can kind can develop in any part of the body such as the lungs, appendix, small intestine and pancreas and have the ability to either overproduce or underproduce hormones leading to a series of health complications.

Obesity is a complex disease that involves an excessive amount of fat on the body caused by various factors which could be genetic or an unhealthy diet, increasing the risk of other diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and certain cancers.

  • Reproductive endocrinology:
  • Menstrual irregularity
  • Infertility
  • PCOD
  • Excessive hair growth
  • Menopausal problems

This is a rare disorder that occurs when the pituitary gland found in the brain doesn’t create and supply an adequate amount of hormones to the body causing a series of complications that may include problems with growth, deficiency in egg or oestrogen production in women and a drop in testosterone levels in men, hypothyroidism, low blood pressure, excessive urination, thirst and electrolyte imbalances.

Pituitary Tumours are abnormal growths that develop in the Pituitary Gland, which results in increased production of hormones that regulate important bodily functions and other forms of the tumour can also produce lower levels of hormones. This could lead to other serious health conditions if left untreated. Common symptoms may include headaches, loss of peripheral vision, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, weakness, sexual dysfunction, unintended weight gain or loss and an increased amount of urine.

The Parathyroid glands are small pea-sized glands located behind the thyroid gland and are responsible for creating and supplying the Parathyroid hormone which tightly controls the calcium levels in the bloodstream. Our specialised team treat a variety of problems that may be posed by this gland such as hypercalcaemia, primary hyperparathyroidism, osteoporosis and hypocalcaemia.

This condition occurs when the body has too much of the hormone cortisol which can cause a series of symptoms such as a fatty lump between the shoulders, rounded face, pink or purple stretch marks on the skin, high blood pressures, bone loss and on occasion, type 2 diabetes.

This is a hormonal disorder that occurs when the pituitary gland in the brain overproduces the growth hormone during adulthood causing an increase in bone size. When it affects children, it results in increased height and could lead to life-threatening complications if left untreated. Symptoms may include enlarged hands and feet, enlarged facial features, excessive sweating, fatigue, limited joint mobility, vision problems, headaches, erectile dysfunction and menstrual cycle irregularities in women.

Pheochromocytoma is a rare tumour that develops in one or both the adrenal glands which usually is noncancerous. However, if left untreated it can lead to a series of complications such as high blood pressure, headaches, profuse sweating, rapid heartbeat, tremours, paleness in the face, shortness of breath and anxiety.

There's nothing blissful than hearing a child's laugh or watch them grow right before our eyes. It's another story when their health takes a different turn and our hearts ache while they lay incapacitated with a chronic disease or health condition.
