Knee replacement otherwise known as arthroplasty that applies for both total and partial knee ailments is a surgical procedure used to relieve pain and restore function in several damaged knee joints. This method involves cutting away damaged bone and cartilage from the thighbone, shinbone and kneecap and replacing it with an artificial joint known as prosthesis, usually made of metal alloys, high-grade plastics or polymers.
A trochanteric fracture occurs when there is a bone break affecting the upper region of the thighbone, where two bony prominences known as the greater and lesser trochanter are present. Several types of trochanteric fractures can occur and sometimes concurrently – Intertrochanteric fractures, subtrochanteric fractures and Trochanteric avulsion fractures. This is treated by surgery with the use of screws or a partial or full hip replacement followed by medication and rehabilitation.
This procedure is mostly sought when conventional methods to treat pain that does not subside in the arms after overhead work or sports. This surgical procedure involves reattaching the tendon to the head of the upper arm bone. A Laminectomy also known as decompression surgery, is a procedure that creates space by removing the back part of the vertebra which covers the spinal cord, enlarging the spinal canal and relieves pressure on the spinal cord and nerves. This process is used only when conventional methods of therapy haven’t relived symptoms – medication, physical therapy or injections.
This is a surgical procedure that is used to love a herniated or degenerative disc in the lower spine. A discectomy may be recommended if conventional modes of therapy such as physical therapy or medication have failed to relieve pain in the legs or show signs of damage – weakness or loss of sensation in the legs. This surgery can be performed laparoscopically or as open surgery.
Knee arthroscopy is a surgical procedure that is used to diagnose and treat conditions in the knee joint. This is made possible with the help of a small incision and insertion of a tiny video camera known as an arthroscope, to give the surgeon a better overview of the problem inside.
A meniscectomy is a surgical procedure used to treat damaged cartilage structure within the knee known as meniscus. The meniscus is responsible for distributing weight, helps the knee hold weight, stabilises the joint, provides lubrication and acts as a shock absorber. This procedure is performed to help heal tears of the meniscus. A partial or a full meniscectomy is performed depending on the severity of the tear.
A surgical procedure that is used to treat carpal tunnel syndrome – a painful condition that is caused by pressure on the median nerve. A Carpal tunnel is the narrow passageway surrounded by bones and ligaments in the palm. When this passageway is compressed, it results in a series of painful symptoms including tingling, weakness or numbness in the hand or arm.
A femoral neck fracture is a common location for a hip fracture that accounts for half the hip fractures seen in patients. The hip is a ball and socket joint where the upper leg meets the pelvis. At the top of the thighbone is the femoral head. Right below the femoral head is the femoral neck. These types of fractures are usually common in elderly patients who have poor bone density and are common among women. Treatment for femoral neck fractures involves surgery, medication and rehabilitation.

Bone fractures in the foot and ankle can occur for anyone at any time ranging from small hairline fractures to traumatic bone breaks. It is crucial to get fractures treated quickly so the healing process can begin early as possible. For mild fractures or when the bone isn’t displaced, continued rest, ice to help with the swelling, compression – wrapping the injury to control swelling and raising the injured foot and ankle slightly above a certain angle can help reduce inflammation. In more severe cases, surgery is recommended and the surgeon may opt for ankle fracture fixation surgery, non-union ankle fracture surgery or foot and ankle reduction surgery depending on the nature of the fracture and its location.
A lumbar spinal fusion is performed to correct a deformity, improve stability or reduce pain by permanently connect two or more vertebrae in the spine. This procedure is designed to imitate the normal healing process of broken bones by placing a bone or a bonelike material in the space between the spinal vertebrae. This is followed by holding the vertebrae together using metal plates, screws and rods so they can heal together.
Similar to knee arthroscopy, shoulder arthroscopy is performed to examine or repair tissues inside or around the shoulder joint. This procedure is performed to treat rotator cuffs, impingement syndrome and shoulder instability.
A shoulder decompression surgery also known as acromioplasty is used to treat shoulder impingement – a condition that causes weakness in the shoulder and pain when the patient raises the arm above the head. This occurs when the tendons that support the rotator cuff muscles become damaged.
